Key responsibilities & impact

Provides first line of customer support.
Responsible for coordinating, processing, and tracking incoming and outgoing patient referrals across the organization to ensure timely access to care.
Requires strong analytical skills to gather, review, and interpret clinical, demographic, and insurance information to accurately process referrals in compliance with organizational standards and NCQA requirements.
Serves as a primary point of contact for patients, providers, external facilities, and internal departments, resolving referral-related inquiries while maintaining clear communication, documentation accuracy, and continuity of care.
Demonstrates excellent customer service skills and takes initiative to meet the needs of all guests to ensure a positive experience.
Demonstrates a courteous, friendly and welcoming manner.
Assists with directing and escorting individuals as necessary to provide the full service experience.
Acts as a liaison between staff and guests to keep each party well informed.
Assists in maintaining department cleanliness and organization.
Must possess knowledge and understanding of designated computer systems to provide necessary services associated with daily tasks.

Requirements

What you’ll need

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
One year of office experience with exposure to customer relations and computer data input preferred.
Medical Terminology knowledge preferred.
Depending on department, Medicare and Medicaid billing knowledge preferred.
Graduate of a vocational technical Health Unit Coordinator, Medical Office Secretary, Medical Office Specialist, or equivalent program preferred.
Completion of medical terminology and anatomy & physiology coursework at time of hire preferred.
One year of experience in referral coordination, healthcare administration, or health insurance preferred.
