About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Build systems that learn from demonstrations and combine AI reasoning with deterministic execution to complete workflows reliably
- Develop recovery and verification capabilities so agents adapt to changes, confirm outcomes, and recognize when human intervention is needed
- Build backend services with workflow state management, failure handling, and secure access to customer environments
- Create evaluations and diagnostics that measure task success, expose regressions, and explain failures
- Work alongside customers to understand workflows, prototype solutions, and validate results in their environments
- Investigate automation successes and failures and turn findings into core product improvements
- Help customers move from initial successful workflows toward repeatable, increasingly self-service adoption
- Partner with forward-deployed engineers and product management to shape the roadmap
- Own technical decisions for substantial components from design through production operation
- Evaluate model selection, tool use, and context management against reliability, latency, and cost
- Mentor peers through design discussions and code reviews
- Participate in hiring
Requirements
What you’ll need- Independently owned a substantial backend service or system through design, deployment, production failures, and subsequent improvements
- Hands-on experience building and evaluating LLM-powered systems
- Ability to assess LLM system quality and failure modes
- Understanding of concurrency, persistent state, retries, and partial failures in systems performing consequential actions
- Proficiency in Python, Go, Java, or JavaScript/TypeScript
- Ability to turn unclear customer problems into bounded technical approaches, test with users, and carry solutions through production
- Willingness to engage directly with customers, investigate problems, and discuss technical tradeoffs
- Thoughtful use of AI development tools with responsibility for correctness, security, and maintainability
- Helpful experience with agent tool use, code generation, automated recovery, or evaluation frameworks
- Helpful experience with browser automation, workflow orchestration, or enterprise integrations
- Helpful experience building an early-stage product or working in a customer-facing engineering role
