About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Define and execute the accounting strategy for the inventory portfolio, including owned product, consignment, leased shop-in-shops, and dropship arrangements
  • Oversee accounting policies and operational execution for inventory valuation, sales and margin reserves, and cost of goods sold
  • Provide strategic finance partnership to Merchandising and Supply Chain leaders on gross margins, markdown impacts, and inventory aging
  • Design and maintain accounting frameworks for consignment models, brand partner margin splits, concessions, and product licensing arrangements
  • Ensure margin and inventory reporting adheres to US GAAP, debt compliance requirements, and applicable deadlines
  • Prepare reference schedules and executive presentation materials for accounting and disclosure reviews
  • Direct month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes for inventory and sales reserves, payables reserves and settlements, and other margin impacts
  • Lead external audit relationships for inventory valuation, shrinkage provisions, obsolescence modeling, borrowing base measurements, and reporting
  • Manage interactions with bank agents, auditors, and valuation specialists
  • Lead commercial and finance participation in technology and systems initiatives affecting inventory, sales, and margin
  • Drive automation across landed-costing calculations, vendor allowance tracking, cross-banner inventory transfers, reserve analysis, and accounting
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of inventory and gross margin accountants, analysts, and specialists
  • Foster analytical rigor, cross-functional partnership, and continuous process improvement

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 8–12+ years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience
  • Minimum of 4–5 years in a managerial or director role within retail or consumer goods preferred
  • CPA or MBA strongly preferred
  • Ability to synthesize complex GAAP rules and articulate financial narratives to executives, auditors, and board members
  • Skilled at building relationships across business units and functional support teams
  • Precision regarding financial data integrity and adherence to reporting deadlines
  • Master-level knowledge of Weighted-Average-Cost Accounting for retail operations, landed cost structures, and luxury consignment models
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and experience applying authoritative guidance to complex cross-functional transactions
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-channel inventory
  • Deep experience with enterprise-level stock ledger/inventory management, order management, and point-of-sale systems
  • Proficiency in enterprise ERPs such as Workday, SAP, or Oracle
  • Proficiency in financial reporting/consolidation software such as Workiva, OneStream, Hyperion, or EPM
  • Proven track record leading digital transformation or finance-system implementation projects
