About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Coordinate accurate scheduling of multiple outpatient diagnostic appointments across health system locations and departments
- Schedule appointments based on resource availability while reducing service delays
- Accept and prioritize incoming phone calls
- Triage information for urgent procedure requests
- Send critical requests for supplies and services to appropriate personnel to support early ordering and pre-authorization processes
- Obtain necessary information according to department procedures and provide directed instructions
- Schedule correct procedures and enter orders accurately into the clinical system
- Identify patients accurately in the Master Patient Index and assign correct Medical Record and Account Numbers
- Serve as liaison and communication point among patients, customers, staff, offices, departments, employees, and healthcare professionals
- Communicate schedule changes early and accurately to maximize scheduling efficiency
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a healthcare environment such as a hospital, physician office, or imaging facility
- Clerical, customer service/support, data entry, or call center environment experience preferred
- Excellent communication, telephone, customer relations, and organizational skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Working knowledge of hospital diagnostic departments
- Working understanding of insurance plans
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Working knowledge of basic business office equipment
- Ability to perform telephone activities concurrently with computer activities
- No licensure, registration, or certification required
- Ability to exercise independent judgment for minor decisions within established policies and protocols
- Ability to work directly with patients/customers, internal and external customers, healthcare professionals, and staff
