Your day-to-day at Sagent: We are looking for a highly skilled Mainframe Application Support & Development Engineer with expertise in COBOL, JCL, and CICS, and a strong understanding of database technologies like DB2 and VSAM. This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining mainframe applications, as well as providing production support and performance tuning to ensure system reliability and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, and CICS.
Analyze user requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
Write, test, debug, and deploy high-quality code in a z/OS environment.
Provide L2/L3 support for mainframe applications, ensuring timely resolution of incidents and service requests.
Use mainframe debugging tools (e.g., Fault Analyzer, File Manager) to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
Monitor application performance using tools like OMEGAMON and App Performance Analyzer (APA).
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze the impact of software changes and recommend improvements.
Document technical designs, procedures, and support guides.
Participate in code reviews, performance tuning, and optimization efforts.
Support Azure Monitor configuration and alerting for hybrid environments (good to have).
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
5+ years of experience in mainframe application development and support.
Proficient in COBOL, JCL, CICS, and VSAM.
Experience with DB2 (good to have with knowledge on writing queries) and z/OS/z/VM operating systems.
Hands-on experience with tools like File Manager, Fault Analyzer, APA, and OMEGAMON.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
Basic experience with Azure Monitor: configuring, managing, and troubleshooting alert rules.
