About the role

  • Formulate and clearly articulate credit rating recommendations based on comprehensive analysis of financial statements, deep understanding of macroeconomics and financing conditions and debt documentation.
  • Develop insightful and forward-looking company and sector-level credit rating research.
  • The analyst will be covering several sectors (like commodities, utilities, telecommunications, transportation infrastructure, consumer goods) in both emerging and frontier economies.
  • Lead interactions and management with senior executives from (CEO, CFO, Treasury teams) and be capable to conduct in-depth analytical discussion on credit/financial/industry topics with assertiveness.
  • Manage relationships with rated issuers and investors, ensuring effective communication and service delivery.
  • Communicate with investors and market participants through high-quality sector and company reports, presentations, and direct engagement.
  • Thoroughly document supporting analyses to ensure clarity and transparency in credit rating decisions.
  • Present and defend conclusions to the credit rating committee in a coherent and logical manner.
  • Collaborate with other analysts within the Ratings teams, notably sovereigns and financial institutions, to enhance cross-sector knowledge and skills.

Requirements

  • Have strong analytical skills with a deep understanding of financial statements and accounting concepts.
  • An S&P Global employee at this level would typically have 3-4 years of experience and a master's degree in relevant fields, such as Finance, Economics or Business Administration.
  • Strong interest in Emerging Markets and macroeconomics is a necessity, any prior exposure to those markets (irrespective of the asset class) is a plus.
  • French language skills could be a plus as credit coverage could comprise corporates in the Francophone part of Africa.
  • An ability and interest in complex financial modelling to analyze a company’s capital structure, liquidity, and forecasts, in an independent way.
  • Strong accounting skills.
  • Experience in analyzing debt/instrument documentation and transaction structures.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ownership of tasks.
