About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Investigate and adjust complex and mid-to-high exposure bodily injury and property damage claims
Direct outside defense counsel, independent adjusters, experts, and other vendors in claim-handling processes
Supervise vendors retained for investigations, cost containment, expert witnesses, and litigation management
Ensure claims are handled appropriately according to applicable jurisdiction
Alert the Claims Manager to changes and proposed changes in laws affecting Ryder's Liability program
Assist the Claims Manager in identifying exposures and recommending solutions
Interact with field and operations management, legal counsel, safety managers, customers, insurance carriers, and third-party claimants
Interact with the Law Department on significant cases and update field operations personnel on claims status
Recommend and set reserves based on probable ultimate payout and documented file developments
Complete detailed internal reports
Interact with primary and excess insurance carriers and reinsurers on files meeting reporting thresholds
Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's degree in a related field required
Five (5) years or more experience in Casualty Claims required
Demonstrated ability to handle mid-to-high exposure claims
Ability to build strong customer relationships
Strong commitment to customer focus
Effective interpersonal skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Comprehensive understanding of relevant laws and regulations
Knowledge of related medical and legal terminology
Strong claim technical skills
Superior negotiation skills
Ability to deal effectively with claimants and plaintiff attorneys
Adjuster License(s) are a plus
