About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Identify key supplies in an effort to utilize returnable containers for maximum safety, storage, protection and shipping
- Create cost reductions as a result of choosing packaging that is flexible and will accommodate multiple products; and create packaging guidelines in conjunction with industry standards, best practices and customer requirements
- Consult with purchasing and manufacturing departments and determine costs and feasibility of proposed packaging
- Create cost justification presentations to review with customer
- Develop sketches, specifications, samples and written analyses of proposed packaging in order to present design for approval
- Analyze engineering drawings and product specifications to determine part characteristics to ensure proper development of protective packaging taking safety and special handling into consideration
- Maintain returnable container master by supplier
- Train and educate customers (internal and external) on program
- Ensure packaging can be utilized throughout all processes of the operation
- Identify key suppliers to utilize returnable containers to maximize safety, storage, protection and shipping
- Right size required product and research alternative container methods; Maximize material handling efficiency
- Consult with purchasing and manufacturing departments to determine costs and feasibility of proposed packaging
- Assist with implementing reusable containers
- Provide guidance to purchasing on the supplier cost of the container versus corrugated, wood, etc
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering
- One (1) year experience in Packaging Engineering, required
- One (1) year experience working in a team environment, required
- Able to read and understand the regulations of the customer, AIAG and OSHA standards
- Mathematics, oral and written communication skills; presentation skills; the ability to sell the vision
- Ability to create and maintain professional relationships with all levels of the organization (peers, work groups, customers, supervisors)
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Flexibility to operate and self-driven to excel in a fast paced environment
- Capable of multi-tasking, highly organized with excellent time management skills
- Detail oriented with excellent follow-up practices
- Knowledge of CAD, Access, Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint, Visio, Tableau; advanced level.
