About the role
- Design and develop applications, scripts, and services that interact with the Jira platform using REST APIs, Atlassian Forge, and webhooks.
- Build internal tools and microservices to automate tasks, enforce governance, and extend Jira functionality.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and implement custom solutions that streamline workflows, reporting, and team coordination.
- Contribute to the architecture and development of scalable integrations between Jira and other systems (e.g., GitHub, CI/CD, data platforms).
- Leverage scripting and low-code tools such as ScriptRunner, Automation for Jira, and Forge functions to create efficient, maintainable enhancements.
- Maintain clean, well-documented code and provide support for ongoing operations, troubleshooting, and enhancements.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying Jira platform limitations and proactively developing solutions or workarounds.
- Champion automation best practices, API governance, and reusable component development.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in a software engineering or systems development role with direct exposure to Jira development.
- Advanced proficiency in using Jira REST APIs, webhooks, and Atlassian’s Forge or Connect frameworks.
- Solid experience with scripting and programming languages (e.g., JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, or Groovy).
- Understanding of software architecture principles, API lifecycle management, and system design.
- Experience with Atlassian tools such as ScriptRunner, Structure, or other Marketplace apps that support extensibility.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively to translate business needs into reliable, testable, and secure code.
- Atlassian certifications (e.g., ACP-120, ACP-420) or equivalent technical credentials preferred.
- Experience deploying cloud-native or serverless applications (e.g., AWS Lambda, Google Cloud Functions) preferred.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and how Jira fits into modern development workflows preferred.
- Exposure to Agile/SAFe methodologies and enterprise-scale change management practices preferred.
