About the role

  • Manage engineering teams and guide them as the organization scales to help Americans find care
  • Be a hands-on player and coach, developing applications and tools while growing team capabilities
  • Ensure incremental value delivery and high-quality standards in collaboration with Product and Design
  • Attract, onboard, and retain diverse top talent; develop people through coaching and mentoring
  • Conduct regular 1:1s, goal setting, and feedback conversations to ensure well-being and team health
  • Maintain transparency, efficiency, and collaboration in an Agile/Scrum environment with Product Management
  • Advocate and promote leadership across the engineering organization
  • Drive organizational development and cross-cutting efforts to improve support structures for teams
  • Grow teams' expertise in performance, reliability, scalability, maintainable architecture, and experimentation
  • Optimize the performance, scalability, security, and SEO of applications
  • Build high-throughput transactional services and highly performant web experiences and collaborate with business leaders

Requirements

  • At least three years of experience building and leading software development teams
  • 5+ years scoping, building and supporting web applications
  • Experience with website development using JavaScript, HTML, CSS
  • Experience in modern front-end technologies such as React and NextJS
  • Server-side experience in technologies such as Java, C#, PHP, or Node
  • Expertise integrating with RESTful APIs
  • Experience with OOP and software design skills
  • Experience with developing for and deploying to a cloud platform like AWS
  • Experience working with distributed teams
  • Knowledgeable about modern software engineering practices and agile/lean values
  • Servant leader, effective communicator, strong collaborator, and emphasis on continuous learning
  • Experience in hiring and managing engineers, conducting 1:1s, goal setting, and feedback conversations
