Backend Engineer

• Build and own production-grade backend systems that ingest data directly from physical sensors, devices, and hardware platforms.
• Develop integrations for a range of sensor and hardware systems, working with clean APIs where available and finding reliable ways to extract data where interfaces are incomplete, poorly documented, or nonexistent.
• Design services and data pipelines that normalize, process, and make sensor data available within TyrOS.
• Build and improve tracking and sensor-fusion capabilities that correlate detections from multiple sources into a single tracked entity.
• Work with imperfect real-world data, including incomplete, delayed, inconsistent, or unreliable feeds.
• Collaborate with platform engineers, product teams, and operational stakeholders to translate sensor and tracking requirements into dependable software.
• Deploy and test software in both unclassified and classified environments, including periodic work at customer or government sites.
• Participate in technical design discussions and code reviews, contributing to a culture of engineering rigor, ownership, and mission focus.
• Triage and debug production issues, improving system reliability, observability, and performance through rapid iteration.

Backend Software Engineer – Sensors and Tracking

Infrastructure Engineer

• Design, build, and operate cloud infrastructure across AWS and multi-cloud environments.
• Deploy and manage applications on Kubernetes (EKS and other environments), ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, enabling repeatable and auditable deployments.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines (e.g., CircleCI) to support rapid and reliable software delivery.
• Implement and operate observability systems (metrics, logs, tracing) to monitor system health and performance.
• Collaborate with backend and infrastructure teams to ensure services are designed for scalability, resilience, and operability.
• Support integration with edge-deployed systems, including handling synchronization, connectivity, and deployment workflows across distributed environments.
• Debug and resolve production issues across cloud infrastructure, networking, and application layers.
• Contribute to best practices around security, reliability, and performance across the platform.

Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

Engineer

• Work side-by-side with end users and stakeholders to understand their toughest challenges, then design and deliver software solutions that directly address those needs.
• Take full ownership of features from concept to deployment, including prototyping, integrating with existing systems, and ensuring performance in demanding real-world environments.
• Collaborate across engineering, product, design, and operations teams to build scalable systems, prioritize work, and drive complex projects to completion.
• Continuously monitor and improve system reliability and performance by instrumenting code, analyzing metrics, diagnosing issues, and iterating on fixes.
• Balance short-term urgency with long-term maintainability—making thoughtful trade-offs that keep solutions practical, effective, and mission-focused.
• Travel roughly ~25% to deploy, field-test, and support software systems, gathering feedback directly from users to ensure success in operational settings.

Forward Deployed Engineer

Manager

• Work side-by-side with our customers to understand their unique challenges and represent the customer as you work with the Rune engineering team to shape product development.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Rune engineering, product, business development and executive teams to ensure each team is engaged and working towards customer success.
• Be comfortable that no two weeks in the life of a Mission Manager will be the same; be a do-er who wants to understand customer problems and highly technical solutions to those problems.
• Support deployment of Rune software for testing, evaluation and operational use at government facilities and military bases.
• Lead training sessions to ensure Rune’s product meets user needs, and to ensure it is being used to have a concrete impact on our customers’ operations.
• Identify relevant datasets through deep engagement with customer problems and workflows, and work with Rune engineers to integrate this data into product delivery.
