About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide full contractual and commercial support to development, approval and issuance of bids and proposals, including responses to RFP/ITN and company strategy
- Identify commercial risks, contribute to the overall risk plan, and implement effective risk mitigation
- Lead contract negotiations
- Manage new and existing contracts, including contract change control and contract flow-downs
- Support other functions on contractual and commercial matters
- Resolve commercial issues promptly and effectively
- Manage financial aspects of contracts, including forecasting, milestone plans, and timely claim submission
- Act as the organisation’s commercial face and day-to-day customer contact
- Provide contractual and commercial governance and advice to bid and project teams as a subject matter expert
- Support multiple contracts and provide flexibility as business requirements change
- Assure successful completion, closeout, and archiving of contracts
- Champion change and improvement
- Work with UK-wide teams and travel to UK sites as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Relevant degree or equivalent experience
- Experience reviewing and drafting contractual documents
- Strong commercial awareness, business principles, and governing law knowledge
- Experience in commercial risk management
- Ability to respond to tasks with tenacity and flexibility in a cross-functional, multidisciplinary team
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with internal and external customers
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and collaborate with others
- Positive, self-motivated, and able to work independently
- Willingness and ability to travel occasionally
- Eligible to obtain security clearance (SC) beyond baseline personnel security standard (BPSS)
- Previous defence-sector contracting experience desirable
- Accreditation in Commercial and Supply Chain Management desirable
- Basic programme management skills, including risk management, programme gating, and metrics desirable
- Strong problem-solving and dispute-resolution record desirable
- Experience with international suppliers or customers desirable
- Financial management experience desirable
- Awareness of data protection and relevant commercial and contract legislation desirable
- Familiarity with IPDS, SAP or similar business process management tools and competitive bidding desirable
