About the role
- Configure, manage and maintain Microsoft SQL, PostgreSQL and MySQL database servers in accordance with established best practices as applied for performance and security.
- Implement and maintain SQL server DISA STIGs.
- Install, configure and integrate SQL servers and support dependent applications.
- Management and validation of SQL Backups as well as restoral.
- Build highly available server clusters.
- Document, test and implement SQL server services.
- Assess and evaluate current deployments providing recommendations for enhancements.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures.
- Create and defend system change requests.
- Manage user requests for assistance, application installation and upgrades.
- Configure and support security support infrastructure including backups, anti-virus software, patch management and vulnerability scanning.
- Install and upgrade SQL server components, when possible supporting integration of automation processes.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software errors, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues.
- Create documentation of all work performed to capture configuration and installation procedures.
- Support security staff in compliance and vulnerability audits of SQL Servers and supporting client systems, implementing security remediation, and during accreditation events.
- Work with fellow engineers to identify database design changes required to support changing processes or requirements.
Requirements
- Active and transferable TS/SCI U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
- Must be able to attain and maintain a DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (Security+ or CISSP preferred).
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
- A strong understanding and knowledge of computer, network, and security systems.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work well independently under limited oversight, be self-directed and able to prioritize work.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL, Microsoft Windows Server environment, Postgres, MySQL, and Linux (preferred).
- Understanding of basic network engineering fundamentals, including: OSI layers, IP addressing, sub-netting, TCP/IP stack, VLANs, DHCP, etc. (preferred).
- Demonstrated experience implementing computer security (preferred).
