About the role
- Architect, design, and lead the development of mission-critical software systems supporting global aviation communication networks
- Serve as a technical authority for air-ground and ground-ground communications, command and control systems, logging, test frameworks, and OS/hardware customization
- Define and guide software architecture decisions, ensuring scalability, availability, security, and long-term maintainability
- Lead technical planning, estimation, and execution across multiple projects, influencing scope, resources, and schedules
- Mentor and technically guide software engineers, setting engineering standards and best practices across teams
- Collaborate across disciplines (systems engineering, performance, network engineering, cybersecurity, and system acceptance) to deliver integrated, end-to-end solutions
- Support deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting in lab and field environments, including root cause analysis for complex system issues
- Drive continuous improvement in development processes, tools, and software quality across the organization
Requirements
- Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience, OR Advanced degree in a related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience
- Demonstrated experience leading complex software development efforts across the full product lifecycle
- Experience working in team-based environments using disciplined development processes
- Proven ability to lead software estimation, planning, and technical execution for teams of 3+ engineers
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders
