About the role

  • Representing the Temporary Works CoE when necessary at internal and external meetings.
  • Carrying out Matrix Management duties and Performance and Development Reviews.
  • Liaising with and advising other departments and project teams.
  • Being the “key point of contact” when appointed as Supervising / Lead Designer.
  • Arranging and undertaking site visits when appropriate.
  • Supervising others working on tasks within informal teams.
  • Ensuring that feedback on design work is obtained, reviewed, collated and saved.
  • Preparing/supervising the development of conceptual designs.
  • Checking/reviewing the design work of other staff members and external designers.
  • Summarising quantities relating to design tasks and prepare for pricing purposes.
  • Ensuring that the design task database is maintained with up-to-date and relevant data.
  • Taking a proactive approach to training and continuing professional development.

Requirements

  • Proven experience and expertise in civil engineering design structures, which may include earthworks, earth retaining structures, foundations, structural steelwork, façade retention, reinforced concrete, timber and formwork/falsework.
  • Proven experience in construction methods and processes.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a related subject.
  • Experience and knowledge of digital construction processes.
  • Chartered membership of ICE and/or IStructE or an accepted alternative professional institution or demonstrable experience and responsibility at a level at least equivalent to a Chartered Engineer.
  • Construction site/project experience (desirable).
  • Familiarity with modern methods of construction (e.g., DfMA etc.) (desirable).
  • Ability to manage a team (desirable).
