About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead, execute, and grow RMS virtual assembly and advanced metrology services for static equipment applications
- Own planning and execution of all RMS static equipment virtual assembly projects as technical authority and primary point of accountability
- Develop execution strategies using dimensional metrology, 3D scanning, laser tracking, modeling, and virtual assembly techniques
- Establish project objectives, requirements, tolerances, deliverables, and acceptance criteria with customers, engineers, fabricators, contractors, and field personnel
- Ensure accurate and efficient field data collection and transform data into actionable engineering information
- Oversee fit-up analysis, alignment evaluations, dimensional inspections, interference detection, and virtual assembly results
- Review and approve customer deliverables
- Identify dimensional or fit-up issues before field installation and develop risk-mitigation recommendations
- Coordinate metrology, engineering, field services, and project management resources
- Drive consistent execution standards, documentation, quality, and repeatable methodologies
- Serve as RMS subject matter expert for metrology and virtual assembly applications to static equipment
- Provide technical leadership for vessels, reactors, exchangers, columns, piping systems, structural interfaces, and large fabricated components
- Develop technical applications, workflows, standards, procedures, training, and best practices
- Own growth of the static equipment virtual assembly business, including pipeline, revenue targets, and growth initiatives
- Identify target customers, industries, projects, and applications
- Develop relationships with plant owners, EPCs, fabricators, contractors, and turnaround organizations
- Translate customer challenges into technical solutions and scopes of work
- Develop and support technical and commercial proposals, including methodology, resources, schedule, assumptions, and pricing inputs
- Partner with sales personnel to advance opportunities and develop presentations, case studies, and value propositions
- Act as trusted technical advisor throughout project development and execution
- Lead kickoff meetings, technical reviews, execution planning sessions, and final customer presentations
- Maintain customer communication and address technical, schedule, and commercial concerns
- Mentor supporting personnel and build static equipment virtual assembly into a scalable service offering
- Deliver safe, high-quality, on-time projects, customer satisfaction, repeat business, revenue growth, standardized processes, and reduced field fit-up issues and rework
Requirements
What you’ll need- Significant technical experience with static equipment in refining, petrochemical, chemical, power generation, industrial manufacturing, or similar heavy industrial environments
- Strong hands-on knowledge of dimensional metrology and large-scale measurement technologies, including laser trackers and 3D laser scanning or comparable systems
- Demonstrated understanding of virtual assembly, dimensional control, tolerance analysis, alignment, fit-up, and geometric inspection
- Knowledge of static equipment fabrication, installation, and repair practices
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, dimensional requirements, GD&T, and equipment tolerances
- Ability to lead complex technical field projects from scope development through final customer delivery
- Ability to identify business opportunities and build technical solutions around customer needs
- Ability to operate independently in field environments under schedule pressure
- Ability and willingness to travel 30% or more
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent extensive industry experience may be considered
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug, alcohol, and background checks
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- Able to understand, read, write, and speak English
- Authorized to work in the United States
- Ability and willingness to lift objects up to 50 lbs. with assistance and perform physically demanding activities including walking, climbing, reaching, kneeling, crawling, balancing, assembling, tool usage, standing, sitting, and bending
- Must not have allergies or issues related to handling metals including aluminum, copper, bronze, and steel
- Must meet any government-contract requirements applicable to assigned projects
- Preferred: 10+ years of combined experience in static equipment, metrology, dimensional control, engineering, fabrication, field services, or related disciplines
- Preferred: Experience leading virtual assembly or dimensional control programs for major capital projects, turnarounds, equipment replacements, or complex fabrication projects
- Preferred: Experience with EPCs, equipment fabricators, refineries, petrochemical facilities, or major industrial contractors
- Preferred: Prior business development, technical sales, estimating, proposal development, or experience developing a new technical service offering or emerging business segment
