About the role

  • End-to-end design of complex automation concepts
  • Ownership of demanding concepts from initial customer requirements through full concept development, including 3D layout, selection of robots and peripherals, supplier integration, cycle time and throughput calculations, cost and effort estimation, and structured risk assessment.
  • Definition of technical standards
  • Development and refinement of best practices for automation concepts, e.g. regarding 3D design quality, component and supplier selection, costing logic, and risk assessment methodology.
  • Creation and maintenance of reference concepts
  • Development and evolution of standards and reusable concept building blocks (layouts, peripherals, interfaces) as benchmarks for future projects.
  • Review & critical evaluation of concepts
  • Technical reviews of concepts produced by other engineers—especially for complex or high-volume projects—with a clear focus on assumptions, risks, and technical depth.
  • Methodological development
  • Continuous improvement of approaches to feasibility analyses, automation concepts, and technical evaluation.
  • Technical enablement of the team
  • Conducting design reviews, technical deep dives, and internal workshops, as well as coaching Concept Engineers using real-world examples.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional experience in automation engineering, robotics, custom machine building, or industrial plant engineering — including installation and commissioning experience.
  • Experience designing complete automation cells.
  • Deep understanding of industrial robotics and automation components (robots, grippers, vision systems, conveyor technology, pneumatics, safety systems).
  • Excellent technical judgment for assessing feasibility, risks, costs, and design quality.
  • Experience reviewing, improving, and standardizing technical concepts.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical content clearly, factually, and constructively.
  • Business-fluent German and good English skills.
