About the role
- Provide key technical contributions and ownership within the engineering department for group assessment, responsible for building and operating infrastructure for software services on our Data Manager platform.
- Orient engineering practices toward a maintainable, high-quality enterprise platform, and coach and mentor engineers towards product-minded engineering.
- Own approach towards engineering and infrastructure tooling, automation, and observability, and expand the platform to support a low-cost assessment platform that provides comprehensive insights for learners.
- Work with engineering leaders to iteratively improve platform infrastructure and tooling to improve automation, repeatability, scalability, observability, and cost.
- Work with engineering and product leaders to analyze, estimate, adjust, and implement infrastructure and engineering tooling.
- Write extensive integral code for pipeline automation.
- Coach and mentor engineers on your team and across the department.
- Participate in off-site team meetings with up to 5% travel.
Requirements
- Mastery and ownership of native AWS multi-account deployments with multi-region infrastructure and tooling, with a blend of legacy and cloud-native systems, and cost-effective scalable techniques.
- Mastery with Terraform and CloudWatch.
- Experience with tools handling log aggregation (such as OpenSearch), container/image pipelines (such as Packer), configuration management (such as Ansible), build pipelines (such as Harness, GitHub actions) and scripting in bash and/or Python.
- Strong time management skills, with an ability to manage priorities and balance across multiple tasks and activities.
- Strong communication skills, and can clearly and concisely set expectations and provide direct feedback as needed.
- Experience working with Kubernetes for automating deployment, scaling and management of containerized applications, working on cloud outside of AWS, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) is a plus.
