About the role
- Lead and manage data science, modeling, and AI projects supporting government health and science contracts
- Develop detailed project plans and manage scope, schedule, and costs for evaluation studies
- Supervise and mentor cross-disciplinary teams of data scientists and evaluation specialists
- Design and implement advanced statistical models and machine learning algorithms, including NLP and LLM applications
- Provide technical advice on research design, analytical techniques, and sampling methods
- Develop coding frameworks using NVivo, R, or other coding platforms and aggregate coded comment data to surface themes
- Extract, transform, and validate health data from multiple sources; ensure data quality and integrity
- Develop client reports, present findings to decision-makers, and maintain progress reports in electronic databases
- Create training materials, co-lead trainings, and develop/revise SOPs and process documentation
- Collaborate with stakeholders and contribute to proposal writing and technical solutioning
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in data science, statistics, or other relevant field
- 10 years relevant work experience (minimum), including at least 4 years in social or biomedical science related field
- Experience developing data-driven insights and visualizations that clearly convey complex concepts and conclusions
- Experience leading biomedical research or public health data science projects for the federal government
- Strong understanding and proven experience with AI, statistical and machine learning techniques
- Proven experience as a Senior Data Scientist with focus on analysis, modeling, evaluation, and visualization
- Technical experience with qualitative or quantitative software packages (e.g., NVivo)
- Proficient in Python or R, SQL, and cloud platforms such as Azure
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication skills
- Ability to work independently and eagerness to learn
- Preferred: Master's or doctoral degree, supervisory experience, government contracting networks, bibliometrics or portfolio analysis experience, data science certifications, PMP or other management certifications
