About the role
- Establish and maintain design standards for controls systems (BMS, EPMS, SCADA)
- Review and approve designs, specifications, and programming for BMS, EPMS, and SCADA
- Lead technical risk assessments, QA/QC, and commissioning approvals
- Oversee integration across mechanical, electrical, and IT/network systems
- Serve as technical gatekeeper reviewing and guiding external design teams, consultants, and contractors
- Ensure uptime across portfolio and compliance with Riot's standards for $100M+ projects
- Drive innovation in automation, cybersecurity, and intelligent building systems
- Provide mentorship and technical leadership to the engineering team and support development of controls engineers
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in controls engineering; 5+ in mission-critical/data center environments
- Strong expertise with BMS, EPMS, SCADA platforms and industrial protocols (BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, OPC-UA)
- Proven success leading design reviews, vendor/consultant management, and large-scale project approvals
- Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly to stakeholders and mentor team members
- Bachelor of Science in Controls Engineering or related field from ABET-accredited program
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred
- Advanced certifications in controls systems, cybersecurity, or industrial automation preferred
- Position will be based in the Denver office (relocation assistance available)
