About the role

Establish and maintain design standards for controls systems (BMS, EPMS, SCADA)
Review and approve designs, specifications, and programming for BMS, EPMS, and SCADA
Lead technical risk assessments, QA/QC, and commissioning approvals
Oversee integration across mechanical, electrical, and IT/network systems
Serve as technical gatekeeper reviewing and guiding external design teams, consultants, and contractors
Ensure uptime across portfolio and compliance with Riot's standards for $100M+ projects
Drive innovation in automation, cybersecurity, and intelligent building systems
Provide mentorship and technical leadership to the engineering team and support development of controls engineers

10+ years of experience in controls engineering; 5+ in mission-critical/data center environments
Strong expertise with BMS, EPMS, SCADA platforms and industrial protocols (BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, OPC-UA)
Proven success leading design reviews, vendor/consultant management, and large-scale project approvals
Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly to stakeholders and mentor team members
Bachelor of Science in Controls Engineering or related field from ABET-accredited program
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred
Advanced certifications in controls systems, cybersecurity, or industrial automation preferred
Position will be based in the Denver office (relocation assistance available)
