About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own significant components of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules in accordance with US GAAP
- Handle complex accounting areas including revenue recognition, prepaid/accrued expenses, equity, and insurance-related balances across multiple carrier programs
- Serve as the primary finance liaison to insurance operations and actuarial teams
- Participate in strategic growth projects, including system implementations and standardizing core accounting processes across expanding business lines
- Support the annual audit and tax filings by preparing PBC schedules, responding to auditor requests, and coordinating with external accountants
- Reconcile high-volume transaction data between operational systems, payment processors, and the general ledger
- Drive process improvements, automation, and documentation of accounting policies and internal controls
- Assist with cash management, treasury reconciliations, and intercompany accounting
- Review work of and mentor staff accountants; act as a go-to resource for accounting questions
- Partner with FP&A, RevOps, and business teams on flux analysis, reporting, and ad hoc projects
Requirements
What you’ll need- 4–6 years of progressive accounting experience
- CPA or active CPA candidate strongly preferred
- Strong command of US GAAP
- Hands-on experience with month-end close and financial statement preparation
- Experience with a high-growth startup, fintech, or insurance business is a plus
- Proficiency with a modern ERP/GL such as NetSuite or Sage Intacct
- Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and reconciliation skills
- Self-starter comfortable with ownership, ambiguity, and process improvement
- Clear communicator able to work cross-functionally and explain accounting concepts to non-accountants
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Insurance or statutory accounting exposure is nice to have
- Experience with billing/payments platforms such as Stripe and data tools; SQL is a plus
- Experience supporting a first-time audit or building close processes from scratch is nice to have
