About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Guide families, advocate for them, and coordinate with local community organizations to increase successful family outcomes
- Reduce and eliminate stigma associated with behavioral health, substance use, developmental, social, and emotional concerns
- Educate families on strength-based interventions promoting recovery, symptom reduction, coping skills, and community functioning
- Provide individualized services in the community and support family self-determination and decision-making
- Participate in family care planning meetings involving DSS, schools, DJJ, medical, behavioral health and substance use agencies, courts, and probation
- Use first-hand experiences and system-of-care values to recommend best practices based on current state and national data
- Teach and model alternative parenting and interaction skills
- Help families navigate systems of care by explaining admission criteria, treatment options, and barriers
- Advocate for individual and family needs while teaching family members self-advocacy
- Communicate with the MORE’s team regarding service plans, resource needs, and goals
- Attend seminars, meetings, in-service training, and continuing education
- Serve as an advocate for consumers within the facility and community
Requirements
What you’ll need- Lived experience as a primary caregiver for a child who has/had mental health, substance use disorders, or intellectual/developmental disability
- Experience navigating child and family-serving systems and teaching involved family members
- One of the following: bachelor’s degree in a human services field and one year of target-population experience; associate degree in a human services field and two years of experience with children/adolescents/transition-age youth; or high school diploma/GED and at least four years of experience with children, adolescents, or transition-age youth
- Must hold or be in the process of obtaining a National Certification in Family Partner
- Completion of criminal background screening
- Name checks in the OIG exclusions database, Child Abuse Registry, and Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities registries
- Drug testing
- Education verification and other credentialing based on position requirements
- Proof of employment history or references, if required
- For positions requiring driving: proof of driver’s license, driver’s insurance, and vehicle, if required for transportation
