About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Handles multiple client engagements simultaneously
  • Ensures engagements are appropriately scheduled and staffed based on complexity and size
  • Develops and trains managers and staff, participating in mentoring employees
  • Responsible for strategic decisions relating to the practice and tax department
  • Aids in marketing efforts and developing new business
  • Reviews highly complex individual and business returns
  • Develops strong relationships with clients and becomes their primary contact
  • Responsible for client retention through effective problem resolution, negotiations, proactive client follow-up
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of the client and all facets of client business
  • Negotiates client fees and any additional billing fees
  • Coaches all levels of staff during planning, execution, and completion phases of client engagement
  • Plans, organizes, runs monthly technical meetings for professional staff
  • Notifies partner group of changes in tax laws prior to commencement of change
  • Regularly reports to partner group on updates or changes within tax department, status of engagement projects, with recommended solutions
  • Proactively identifies inefficiencies within tax department and works to reduce or eliminate them
  • Ensures tax department has proper staffing and actively forecasts staffing needs
  • Works with audit department coordinating client visits between audit/tax department
  • Actively participates in new business development through networking and proposals

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Accounting, Taxation or related field
  • Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in public accounting with demonstrated progression in complexity and scope
  • Experience reviewing complex individual and business returns
  • CPA license, preferably for the state of CT
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work heavy overtime from January to April 15(may be in excess of 55 hours per week). Occasional overtime work required throughout the year.
