About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the strategy, architecture, and delivery of AI, machine learning, and data systems powering risk adjustment and quality programs
- Direct engineering teams extracting medical codes and quality data from medical charts using OCR, clinical NLP, large language models, and custom rules engines
- Own the internal API returning extraction results to downstream engineering teams, including contracts, accuracy, and reliability
- Guide data science research advancing ICD extraction and retrieval-augmented generation into production
- Set data warehouse architecture on Azure Synapse and Microsoft Fabric, including ingestion from AWS SQL databases
- Direct business intelligence reporting in Looker with quality assurance in delivery
- Oversee risk analytics determining Medicare Advantage value from coded medical charts
- Define end-to-end AI, data, and analytics architecture and make build-versus-buy and model-selection decisions
- Evaluate innovation in extraction, retrieval, and clinical AI while preserving team autonomy
- Hold teams accountable for extraction accuracy, throughput, uptime, and reliability of data and reporting layers
- Lead seven team leaders, develop technical talent, and redeploy team capacity toward higher-value clinical and research work
- Partner with product, engineering, and clinical leadership to align roadmaps with commercial and regulatory priorities
- Establish data governance, model evaluation, and privacy practices for protected health information and CMS-regulated programs
Requirements
What you’ll need- Track record of leading AI and data organizations, with technical depth to evaluate architecture, model-selection, and build-versus-buy decisions
- Deep experience with applied machine learning and large language models in production
- Experience with retrieval-augmented generation, OCR and document understanding, and clinical natural language processing
- Experience leading data warehouse and business intelligence functions
- Working knowledge of Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, or comparable cloud data platforms
- Experience with BI tools such as Looker
- Demonstrated leadership of multiple technical teams and their leaders
- Working fluency in healthcare risk adjustment, medical coding (ICD), and quality measurement (HEDIS®), or ability to reach it quickly
- Preferred: direct experience with Medicare Advantage risk adjustment, IVA, or RADV audit workflows
- Preferred: familiarity with Google Gemini, AWS Textract, and AWS Comprehend Medical
- Preferred: advanced degree in computer science, data science, biostatistics, or a clinical field, or equivalent applied experience
