About the role
- Develop substation design packages for renewable energy substations and/or utility interconnections, including single-line diagrams (SLDs), general arrangements and, as required, three-line diagrams, P&C schematics, and preliminary steel and foundation quantities.
- Translate utility interconnection requirements and client documentation into clear, actionable preliminary design deliverables.
- Adapt designs in fast-paced development environments with limited or evolving information.
- Execute both protection and control (P&C) and physical substation design scope.
- Produce high-quality AutoCAD drawings consistent with Revamp standards.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, and power systems teams to deliver integrated earlystage design packages.
- Review subconsultant deliverables for technical accuracy, quality, and schedule alignment.
- As needed, contribute to detailed, full design tasks for other substation projects within the team.
- Support client interaction for multiple projects within a portfolio.
- Present design assumptions and respond to technical feedback.
- Serve as a technical point of contact for early-stage substation scope.
- Coordinate with project managers to align client deliverables.
- Ensure documentation aligns with utility interconnection requirements and client expectations.
- Apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria independently.
- Leverage experienced staff for clear design direction as needed.
- Formulate and solve complex substation design problems.
- Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, and codes.
- Identify opportunities to improve templates, workflows, and design efficiency.
- Develop work plans for assigned tasks.
- Provide mentorship to less experienced staff as appropriate.
- Perform essential duties including meeting deliverables and deadlines.
- Perform additional related tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree or greater in a related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of relevant substation design experience.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD for production-level drawing development.
- Demonstrated experience developing:
- o Single-line diagrams (SLDs)
- o General arrangement drawings
- o Protection & Control (P&C) design documentation
- Working knowledge of high-voltage substation equipment, layouts, and protection philosophies.
- Demonstrated ability to independently evaluate and adapt standard approaches for non-routine development-phase assignments.
- Ability to interpret client documents and extrapolate the required scope with limited direction.
- High level of independence paired with sound judgment to seek guidance when appropriate.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills suitable for client-facing discussions.
- Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage fast-turn assignments.
