About the role
- Perform system studies including protective device coordination and analyses (short circuit, arc flash, load flows, ampacity, grounding, harmonic, and power quality).
- Design collection systems, including cable routing and cable sizing.
- Create equipment specifications and apply knowledge of PV solar modules, inverters, battery energy storage systems (BESS), transformers, cable management systems, and balance-of-system (BOS).
- Write reports and make presentations describing studies performed, solutions developed, and value obtained.
- Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, codes.
- Manage time efficiently across multiple projects and coordinate with clients and project managers on expectations.
- Work under guidance of senior staff; work on or lead small projects or portions of larger projects in preparation of drawings and engineering documentation.
- Attend project meetings and present specific aspects of engineering assignments; receive direction and thorough review on unconventional or complex problems.
- Perform essential duties including meeting deliverables and deadlines; perform additional duties as assigned or directed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or greater in Electrical Engineering or similar.
- EIT Certificate is desirable.
- 2+ years of experience in power systems analysis.
- Knowledge of power systems analysis software (ETAP, CDEGS, CYMCAP, PSS/E, PSLF, or similar) is desirable.
- Knowledge of power distribution, transmission, solar PV systems or energy storage systems is desirable.
- Experience working with different vendor-provided dynamic models preferred.
- Experience applying Python or similar programming languages for process automation is desirable.
- Ability to identify and solve complex problems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to be both creative and analytical.
- Detail-oriented and accurate.
- Efficient time management – handle multiple projects simultaneously and with minimal supervision.
