About the role
- Spend significant time with customers understanding their business, workflows, challenges, and the other tools they use
- Participate actively in sales conversations and product pitches—good product managers do this regularly, and we expect the leader to model this behavior
- Hear customer objections, competitive questions, and feedback firsthand to inform product vision
- Proactively monitor the competitive landscape, emerging technologies, and market evolution—we're currently more reactive here and need someone to drive a proactive approach
- Translate deep customer understanding into better product vision and roadmap decisions
- Own and drive the strategic product vision across our platform, including Traffic, Labs, and Asset Protection product areas
- Use the product extensively—log in regularly, understand how customers use it, see what works and what doesn't
- Move beyond inbound product management to outbound, strategic product leadership
- Think constantly about customer evolution, competitor moves, and technology trends
- Build credibility with engineering teams through deep product knowledge and demonstrated customer understanding
- Guide, mentor, and develop current product team members
- Recruit and build a team that embodies customer-centricity—not just as a leader behavior but as a team-wide expectation
- Drive a model where product managers have clear ownership areas and spend significant time talking to customers
- Foster a culture where the entire product team participates in customer conversations and sales support
- Build real credibility with engineering teams—this comes from being close to the product and truly understanding customer needs
- Create productive tension with engineering leadership while maintaining collaborative relationships
- Work closely with sales leadership to support customer acquisition and retention
- Partner with engineering leaders (including those based in Europe) across time zones
Requirements
- B2B software product management experience
- Experience with applications serving business users who are not deeply technical
- Strong customer-facing skills and genuine curiosity about customer problems and how they do their jobs
- Ability to influence and build credibility across an organization, particularly with engineering teams
- Excellent communication skills
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly—this is essential for the role
