About the role

  • The Senior Linux Systems Engineer is responsible for the technical architecture, planning, and implementation of enterprise Linux Systems across cloud, physical and virtual environments.
  • Evaluates and analyzes project requirements to determine feasibility for Linux deployments.
  • Develops specifications and action plans to implement new products to accommodate business needs.
  • Completes performance engineering to ensure high availability and reliability of critical Linux server infrastructure.
  • Oversees security compliance with configuration management, patch management, and version control.
  • Provides guidance, mentors staff and acts as technical escalation point for the team.
  • Utilizes a strong ability to troubleshoot, identifies Linux issues and performs Root Cause Analysis.
  • Works with Solution Architects and Application Owners/Developers to architect, configure, and deploy applications requiring Linux environment.
  • Generates innovative approaches and solutions to recurring tasks or problems.
  • Documents technical problems, resolutions, and processes for assigned tasks and projects.
  • Follows policies and procedures for change and incident management.
  • Stays current on industry trends and new technologies and recommends future initiatives.

Requirements

  • Advanced understanding of security concepts.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and previous experience with Amazon Web Services (EC2, EBS, ECS, RDS, VPC, IAM).
  • Strong knowledge of server/storage hardware and protocols (NFS, CFS, CIFS, iSCSI).
  • High School or GED. (Required)
  • Minimum 8+ years of experience designing and supporting systems running Linux distributions such as Redhat, Ubuntu and/or CentOS. (Required)
  • Minimum 3+ years using Orchestration and Continuous Integration tools, (Terraform, Jenkins). (Required)
  • Minimum 4+ years of Virtualization (VMWare, Docker, Kubernetes). (Required)
  • Strong understanding of scripting tools such as Perl, Bash, PHP, etc. (Required)
  • Desired 2+ years of Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform experience
  • Desired 3+ years of coding with Python
