About the role

  • Oversee preliminary layouts, energy modeling, and conceptual designs (PV system sizing, interconnection voltage selection, equipment selection, etc.)
  • Review site constraints using drawings, topographic surveys, shading analysis, and electrical one-lines for accuracy and feasibility
  • Support solar and BESS project optimization and value engineering, including layout refinement, loss factors, clipping, degradation, and basic BESS operating concepts that influence project value
  • Partner with the development team with technical inputs for permit and interconnection applications
  • Evaluate site constraints (shading, slope, access, interconnection feasibility)
  • Serve as engineering point of contact for EPC partners and field teams and respond to RFIs with clarity and speed
  • Conduct comprehensive QA/QC of preliminary designs and plan sets to ensure design consistency, constructability, and code compliance
  • Coordinate between engineering consultants, EPCs, and internal stakeholders
  • Maintain accurate as-built documentation, open items lists, and change tracking.
  • Develop and lead the use of standardized templates and review checklists
  • Collaborate with Project Managers throughout pre-construction and construction activities, proactively manage the flow of technical information and deliverables to minimize last‑minute issues
  • Evaluate acquisition opportunities by reviewing project data rooms, drawings, and technical reports
  • Identify engineering risks, design gaps, or cost implications during due diligence reviews
  • Assist in energy model validation and yield assessment for prospective projects, be able to prepare concise summaries and provide guidance for internal stakeholders
  • Contribute to building tools and workflows that improve process efficiency, data consistency, and information flow between teams
  • Engage electrical engineers and other subject matter expects as needed.
  • Manage and coordinate engineering subcontractors and external engineering providers: define scopes, track schedules and deliverables, and ensure comments and revisions are clearly captured and closed.
  • Support Project Development and Project Finance teams in developing construction cost estimates.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of engineering or project engineering experience, preferably in solar PV, distributed energy, power plants, or similar infrastructure sectors
  • Demonstrated success leading engineering through development and construction activities
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, or related technical field (Master’s is a plus).
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, personal responsibility/ownership, and communication skills
  • Strong understanding of solar PV systems and electrical design principles
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and PV modeling software (Helioscope, PVSyst, etc.)
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines across a distributed team environment
  • Energy, real estate, engineering, or business related Master’s degree is a plus
  • Demonstrated experience with PVsyst or equivalent tools, including configuration, use of irradiance data, loss modeling, weather datasets, uncertainty analysis, and the ability to communicate results to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Solid understanding of power and electrical engineering fundamentals relevant to PV and BESS plants, including collection systems, MV/HV equipment, and basic grid interconnection concepts.
