About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Take ownership of the engineering function in collaboration with the CEO and wider business
Write, review, and ship production code
Shape technical architecture and engineering decisions
Lead, coach, and develop the software engineering team
Own sprint execution, agile delivery, and roadmap planning
Maintain high standards around DevOps, CI/CD, reliability, privacy, and security
Collaborate with Product, Sales, Customer Success, and other stakeholders
Support hiring and development of the engineering team
Translate technical decisions into clear business outcomes
Report directly to the CEO

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years of professional software engineering experience
Recent hands-on experience writing production code
Experience with software architecture and technical decision-making
Leadership experience as an Engineering Manager, Tech Lead, or Team Lead
Experience coaching and mentoring engineers
Strong understanding of agile product delivery
Experience in a startup or fast-moving technology environment
Excellent communication skills in English
Ability to work autonomously and take ownership quickly
Experience with Go/Golang, React, PostgreSQL, and AWS is highly relevant but not required
Strong engineering fundamentals and hands-on experience with modern web applications
Ability to cover Halifax / Atlantic time business hours
