About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Provide architectural and structural design for the applicable RELX Business Unit
Maintain and deliver technical knowledge and expertise
Determine the technical feasibility of development projects
Act as a conduit between Global Architecture and Engineering or Development teams
Collaborate with architects across different organizations
Introduce and train teams on new technology
Lead teams in resolving complex project issues and coordinate troubleshooting resources
Evaluate new technologies and their applicability to the business
Translate findings into alternatives and solutions, identifying risks, impacts, and schedule adjustments
Drive technical direction and architecture evolution through reviews and on-floor leadership
Monitor Business Unit system health and develop proposals to remedy negative trends
Identify subsystems or components suitable for evolution into shared infrastructure
Research and assess industry and technology advancements and build alliances to advance technical opportunities

Requirements

What you’ll need

10+ years of experience in software, network, or systems engineering
BS Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience required; advanced degree preferred
Strong understanding of programming languages, code, and database
Expert-level knowledge in one or more programming languages or an engineering discipline
Expert in a plurality of Parallel and Distributed Processing Systems, Information Retrieval, Data Mining, Natural Language Processing, Very Large Scale Databases, Declarative Languages, and High-Performance Computing
Solid working knowledge in a plurality of Network Design, Storage System Architectures, Service-Oriented Architecture technologies, XML and XSLT, and Parallel Processing Architectures
Experience with a plurality of Windows Server, UNIX (Linux), and z/OS
Strong organization, project planning, time management, change management, and delegation skills
Advanced problem-solving experience leading teams through complex project issues
Advanced verbal and written communication, customer service, and research skills
Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, diction, and terminology skills
Ability to present information concisely and effectively to clients, management, and departments
