About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead and develop a team of 4–8 AI-native engineers
Create clarity and support performance, coaching, and execution
Elevate product thinking and focus the team on customer outcomes
Set standards for AI-native engineering practices, including agentic workflows, context engineering, and evaluation discipline
Contribute meaningfully to the codebase through design reviews, code reviews, bug fixes, and small features
Own quality and reliability, including on-call health and postmortems
Handle feedback, alignment challenges, and expectation setting
Partner with Talent Acquisition on hiring plans and close strong engineers
Report to the Head of Engineering
Partner with customer-facing teams and company founders
Guide execution and deliver ambitious roadmap goals for the Enterprise platform

Requirements

What you’ll need

Hands-on, AI-native engineering manager experience
Track record managing high-performing engineering teams of comparable scope (4–8 engineers)
Fluency using coding agents daily to build context, decompose problems, orchestrate builds, review quality, and ship non-trivial work
Strong product thinking and judgement focused on customer outcomes
Technical depth in backend systems, APIs, and distributed systems
Meaningful hands-on contribution to the codebase, including shipping work, design reviews, and technical decision-making
Track record of personally closing strong engineering candidates
Comfort with ambiguity and a fast pace
Belief that smaller AI-native teams can outperform larger traditional teams
Ability to quickly learn new technology stacks
Experience with React, Vue.js, TypeScript, Express.js, Node.js, Python, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, AWS, Vercel, Terraform, Kubernetes, Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex is relevant; exact-stack experience is not required
Must be legally authorised to work in Australia
Must be able to work on-site at the Sydney office 3 days per week
Must be based in Sydney, Australia
