About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Directs, manages, and oversees the day-to-day payroll operations for a multi-state organization
- Manages, mentors, motivates, and develops Payroll Team Members; leads by example in actions and decisions with excellent soft skills
- Plans strategically with strong organizational and time management skills
- Maintains accurate payroll records for each payroll processed
- Maintains team member confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping confidential information
- Reconciles bi-weekly file feeds and funding as it pertains to 401k, HSA, and FSA files
- Resolves issues and answers payroll-related questions for team members
- Collaborates with HR & Accounting teams
- Works with and coordinates auditor requests and other third-party vendors
- Participates in payroll testing, training, and documentation
- Advises organization of impending legislative changes and provides updates regularly
- Performs processing when required
- Interfaces with state level agencies regarding payroll matters
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree required
- Proven experience leading a team
- Minimum 5 years of relevant payroll experience
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred, but not required
- Ability to manage spreadsheets, reports, records, and forms with a keen eye for detail
- Mathematical aptitude
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Experience working with file feeds and integrations
- Outstanding communication skills (written and oral)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Thorough understanding of multi-state payroll laws to include CA, taxation, withholding orders, proper and improper deductions, and FLSA as it relates to timekeeping and payments
- Strong knowledge of payroll software and systems
