About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design and develop code implementing new features and resolving defects in open-source virtualization and networking projects
- Contribute to teams enabling features in Red Hat layered virtualization and container products
- Engage with open-source communities, review patches, and provide technical feedback
- Develop and contribute tests to continuous integration workflows
- Collaborate effectively as part of a geographically distributed, agile team
Requirements
What you’ll need- 2+ years of relevant experience in system-level software development for Linux
- C or C++ experience preferred
- Strong understanding of networking concepts, communication layers, protocols, network interfaces, and architectures
- Technical proficiency in the Linux Networking stack or other low-level subsystems
- Strong knowledge of operating systems and computer architecture
- Strong system-level debugging skills, including GDB, strace, and BPF traces
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Development experience with KVM and QEMU and the Linux Virtualization stack is a plus
- Familiarity with open-source development and community engagement is a plus
- Rust, Python, Go, or shell scripting experience is a plus
- Familiarity with security topics and defensive programming techniques is a plus
- Linux driver and kernel networking subsystem experience is a plus
- Experience with x86, ARM64, s390x, or RISC-V platforms is a plus
