About the role
- **The role:**
- We’re looking for a hands-on, commercially minded Financial Controller to take ownership of the finance function at Rat & Boa, a growing, founder-led fashion brand with big ambitions.
- **The main elements of the role are:**
- - Take full ownership of the group finance function across the UK, Netherlands, and US entities, ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely financial management and reporting.
- - Lead the production of consolidated monthly management accounts, budgets, and rolling forecasts, providing insightful analysis on performance, trends, and key variances.
- - Manage group cashflow and liquidity, ensuring optimal working capital management, FX risk oversight, and alignment of intercompany balances.
- - Oversee statutory compliance across multiple jurisdictions, including VAT (UK and Netherlands), GST (US), payroll taxes, and corporate filings.
- - Coordinate the preparation of VAT, GST, and other indirect tax submissions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with local regulations.
- - Build and refine group reporting frameworks and dashboards to deliver clear, real-time visibility of performance by region, channel, and product line.
- - Develop and maintain robust internal controls and accounting policies, ensuring financial discipline, cost control, and scalability as the group grows.
- - Partner with department heads and founders to review performance, identify risks and opportunities, and support commercial decision-making across product, marketing, operations, and logistics.
- - Manage external relationships with accountants, auditors, tax advisors, and banking partners across all territories.
- - Lead on the preparation of annual statutory accounts and audits for all entities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficient coordination of year-end processes.
- - Support international expansion and structural planning, including new market entry, entity setup, and transfer pricing considerations.
- - Continuously improve systems and processes, leveraging technology to automate reporting, enhance data accuracy, and increase efficiency (particularly within Xero and integrated tools).
- - Oversee and mentor the Finance Assistant, ensuring high standards of accuracy in transactional finance, reconciliations, and supplier payments.
- - Provide proactive financial insight and recommendations to support business growth, profitability, and long-term strategic planning.
Requirements

- - Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with experience as a Financial Controller or Management Accountant.
- - Proven experience improving cashflow and reporting processes in a small, fast-paced business — ideally in ecommerce, fashion, retail, or consumer goods.
- - Experience in multi-entity accounting - ideally within EU and US accounting standards
- - Strong working knowledge of Xero and confidence using cloud-based finance tools.
- - Hands-on and pragmatic, happy to roll up your sleeves when needed.
