About the role
- Ensures compliance to railway safety requirements and instructions utilizing a strong understanding of railway safe practices, company policy, and the Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR).
- Provides instructions to ensure that all workers understand site specific requirements prior to commencing work.
- Be physically present with workers to ensure compliance with protection requirements.
- Consults with the site Supervisor and/or contractor’s representative to understand scope of work being conducted, any potential hazards to the rail infrastructure.
- Communicates diligently with the work group being protected, Trains, other railway personnel, and Rail Traffic Controllers to ensure the understanding of instructions, protection limits, work site hazards and other specific site conditions.
- Applies knowledge of the requirements of the rules and regulations to support the safe and on-time movement of heavy rail commuter trains through work zones.
- Provides on-site track protection according to the Canadian Rail Operating Rules.
- Responsible for operating company vehicles and completing all daily maintenance and inspections.
Requirements
- A minimum of 2 years related experience in the railway industry specific to track protection.
- Track Inspection Guidelines certification is an asset.
- Certified in Canadian Railway Operating Rules.
- Ability to read and understand specific documents including schedules, standard railway plans and specifications.
- Ability to work in a safety sensitive position directing work groups on live railway corridors.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards, railway engineering safety regulations and safety precautions of the work being performed.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and French.
- Proficient use of computers, tablets etc.
- Valid Ontario class G driver’s license.
