About the role

  • Report to the Capital Supervisor and be responsible for controlling and directing work crews on active railway property and in construction zones.
  • Organize daily job briefings so that all contractors understand site-specific instructions before starting work.
  • Inspect the site at least once per day and consult with the supervisor and/or the contractor representative to understand ongoing work and any hazards.
  • Install, reposition, and remove railway-specific signals (flags) at designated locations.
  • Communicate effectively with the protected work crew, other flaggers, and rail traffic controllers using established procedures and radio equipment to ensure understanding of instructions, track protection limits, site hazards, and other site-specific conditions.
  • Operate company vehicles and ensure all daily maintenance and inspections of units are completed.
  • Perform special tasks assigned by the Capital Supervisor.
  • Complete all administrative tasks related to proper documentation in accordance with PNR's quality management system.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience in the railway industry.
  • Certification in Track Inspection Guidelines is an asset.
  • Certified in the Canadian Railway Operating Rules (CROR).
  • Ability to read and understand detailed documents, including schedules, plans, and standardized railway specifications.
  • Ability to work in a safety-sensitive position leading work crews on live railway corridors.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards, railway technical safety regulations, and safety precautions for the work performed.
  • Strong English and French skills — verbal and written.
  • Proficient in the use of computers, tablets, and similar devices.
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver's license.
