About the role
- Play a leading role at the heart of the rail industry, shaping policy that directly influences how the railway works for passengers, customers and funders.
- Provide clear, credible advice to senior leaders across the organisation and to members and key external stakeholders.
- Work with government, industry and delivery teams — turning evidence and insight into policy that supports real change.
- Lead high‑quality policy advice and services for our members and industry partners, focusing on essential issues.
- Think strategically and creatively, developing ideas aligned to business priorities and translating them into briefing or consultation responses.
Requirements
- Good inter-personal and relationship building skills with external contacts and internal colleagues
- Good communication skills - verbal, written and presentational
- Excellent numeracy and analytical skills and Computer literate
- Ability to structure, substantiate, draft and then communicate compelling policy positions and briefings
- Broad vocational policy experience, acquired through a combination of job-related training and/or on-the-job experience, demonstrating development through involvement in policy roles
- Knowledge of how UK Government works (desirable)
- Understanding of rail industry and transport policy agreements (desirable)
