About the role
- Owns the overall Program direction and vision in conjunction with the Business Unit and Customer
- Is responsible for ensuring the linkages are maintained between the Program and the organization’s strategic direction
- Delivers communications with all stakeholders in a manner that ensures clear understanding of the future direction
- Directs the Management of the production of plans for the delivery of the project/multiple projects in partnership with the customer and BU to ensure acceptance, closedown and handover to service
- Defines the portfolio requirements and manages the agreement process of the Program requirements and objectives with the Program Board
- Operates along Rackspace working practices ensuring compliance with internal standards
- Approves Project and Program plans
- Exhibits expert knowledge of the practice and principles of Requirements Management at all levels of complexity
- Understands and advises peers and wider community on the correct use of tools and procedures in various methodologies
- Directs the definition and documentation of highly complex and possibly unclear client requirements in such a way that clarity of purpose is maintained for all interested parties
- Ensures that all mechanisms are in place and correctly interface with other project and service management processes
- Adapts and creates processes where deficiencies are encountered in current process and contributes to Rackspace best practice
- Has overall control of the Program implementation, with responsibility for the Program's achievement
- Responsible for establishing the Program, securing sufficient resources and monitoring progress
- Reviews each stage with project managers, Program managers and the customer where appropriate
- Escalates to customer when appropriate prior to stage review
- Directs the Management of the business and Program risks and ensures the production of an effective plan and risk assessment so that timescales and Program costs are understood and underwritten by all by the parties appropriate
- Owns and manages enterprise level issues, instigates and manages corrective action plans in conjunction with senior stakeholders
- Ensures that escalation takes place within the Program or Portfolio structure when acceptable solutions are not found within the project
- Ensures that unresolved issues receive adequate attention at regular management meetings
- Ensures that formal review procedures are used
- Is accountable for directing the tracking of Program costs and supporting Business Units in meeting payment milestones
- Determines appropriate revenue recognition, ensures accurate invoicing, and monitors receivables for all projects under his/her direction
- Directs the Integration of financial data for multiple projects
- Input into vendor selection process for key bids and RFP responses to Supply Chain team
- Determine relevant vendors for projects within the Program
- Provides input into creating the appropriate governance structure and ensures Program team adhere to the processes and improves the structure where opportunities present themselves
- Is responsible for the quality of the Program deliverables by ensuring all practices and participants conform to agreed standards and processes
- Combines reports from a number of sources to generate accurate and integrated Program performance reporting to senior stakeholders
- Exhibits expert knowledge of the theory and practice of project quality management
- Reviews and validates project Quality Plans, and Quality Control and Assurance reports in all environments including complex, high risk ones
- Advises others in implementing quality management practices on their projects
- Fosters a continuous improvement regime
- Leads Quality Reviews and ensures lessons learned in this area are captured implemented and shared centrally
- Acts as the lead and focal point for the Program driving people behaviors and production of deliverables to achieve the desired Program outcomes
- Facilitates the appointment of individuals to the Project Management teams and defines the Program’s governance arrangements
- Ensures maximum efficiency in the allocation of common resources and skills within the Project Portfolio
- Is responsible for supporting and guiding personal and professional development within the Project Management Community
- Undertakes assessment & selection training
- Participates in assessment and recruitment processes
- Deal with escalations appropriately
- Helps to determine new, creative ways to employ teams on projects and distribute responsibilities
- Fully conversant with all key PM industry benefits management processes
- Responsible for ensuring that the aims of the Program and its projects continue to be aligned with evolving business needs
