About the role

  • Counsel uninsured and under-insured patients to obtain a paying funding source for medical services
  • Accurately and compassionately explain financial options and obligations during financial counseling sessions with patients
  • Communicate complex coverage enrollment information and assist patients with applications effectively and efficiently
  • Use and navigate multiple systems and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Gain and display a thorough understanding of Medicaid and other funding programs to provide patients with clear and concise information
  • Reduce patients' financial burdens related to medical care and support patients during difficult times
  • Participate in R1 training and professional development and collaborate with Financial Counseling leaders

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Compassionate communication
  • Ability to multi-task and navigate multiple systems
  • Ability to accurately and compassionately explain financial options and obligations during patient counseling
  • Thorough understanding of Medicaid and other funding programs (to provide patients with clear information)
  • Experience as a financial counselor is a plus
  • Background in medical terminology and understanding State and Federal assistance programs is a plus
  • Relevant healthcare experience is a plus
  • May need to be up to date on vaccinations (including but not limited to an annual flu shot), pass a drug test, and pass a background check prior to hire
