About the role

  • Design and implement new, customer-specific functionality within our core PHP application.
  • Maintain and refactor 'old-school' procedural and object-oriented PHP code.
  • Write complex SQL queries, optimize schemas, and manage data integrity across PostgreSQL and MySQL environments.
  • Help manage and deploy code to unique customer environments within an AWS-based architecture.
  • Manually implement security best practices (e.g., preventing SQL injection, XSS, and CSRF).
  • Partner with project managers and the core dev team to ensure customizations align with the long-term product roadmap.

Requirements

  • 7+ years experience in PHP development
  • Deeply comfortable writing 'Vanilla' or 'Raw' PHP without modern frameworks
  • Advanced proficiency in PostgreSQL and MySQL
  • Strong command of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript
  • Expert knowledge of Git and branching strategies
  • Comfortable navigating Linux command lines for troubleshooting and configuration
  • Familiarity with EC2, RDS, and S3
  • Proven track record of securing legacy applications against modern vulnerabilities
  • Experience migrating or cleaning up legacy codebases without breaking existing functionality
