About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform testing, maintenance and repair of low- and medium-voltage circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, motor control and other electrical apparatus in the shop and field
- Test relays, circuit breakers, transformers, motor control equipment and related switchgear in the field
- Complete mechanical work and repairs on breakers and switches, including tear down, refurbishment and parts replacement
- Serve as a technical leader in testing, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment
- Prepare and document site projects
- Wire circuit breakers
- Utilize and accurately read test equipment
- Read schematics and wiring drawings
- Troubleshoot circuit breaker controls
- Read and plot time-current curves
- Test transformers, including Power Factor and TTR
- Document accurately and consistently using Power DB
- Provide instruction and mentorship to junior-level technicians
- Work with electrical tools and socket sets
- Travel 100% across the United States
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as a Switchgear/High Voltage Technician
- Proficiency with high voltage test equipment
- Knowledge of low and medium voltage test equipment
- Ability to carry out written or oral instructions and deal with problems involving several concrete variables
- Ability to work with probability, statistical inference, geometry, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions
- Ability to read company manuals, reports, workplace rules and procedures
- Ability to speak with poise and confidence, using correct English
- Ability to perform regular field work indoors and outdoors
- Valid Driver’s license and good driving record
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, including reading and writing, due to safety-related materials, documentation and client interactions
- NETA 2 certification preferred
- Associate’s degree from an accredited 2-year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), or an Electrical Engineering Degree from an ABET accredited college preferred
- Similar experience and training from the military, including Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or NAVY Seabee, preferred
