About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform testing and routine maintenance of Transmission and Distribution substation power equipment
  • Test electro-mechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor relaying
  • Test pilot channel equipment, including power line carrier, pilot wire, transfer, transfer trip, fiber optic, CVTs, line tuners, and line traps
  • Test controls and communications equipment
  • Read and properly interpret substation drawings, including single-line drawings, AC/DC schematics, panel wiring diagrams, and panel layout drawings
  • Support writing procedures and test plans for maintenance and construction activities
  • Read and verify relay voltage and current inputs
  • Verify local and SCADA metering, trips, alarms, and function switches
  • Calibrate relays
  • Perform routine troubleshooting and repair of substation relaying and control equipment
  • Commission new substations, power equipment, relaying, pilot channel equipment, controls, and communications equipment
  • Plan, schedule, and complete test activities efficiently, on time, and without service interruptions
  • Provide project technical support to Field Service personnel

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of 5 years of field experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, testing and repairing substation relaying and control schemes
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET university
  • Degree with an emphasis on power systems preferred
  • Experience desirable in substation design, substation construction, substation commissioning, and SCADA/Fault Data/SER/Integration-Automation equipment installation and testing
  • Knowledge of 3 phase power systems and power system protection & control schemes
  • Experience with test equipment and test equipment software
  • Test equipment and tool/wiring usage
  • Ability to interpret wiring and elementary diagrams
  • Basic test skills to perform listed duties
  • Basic PC skills
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply test procedures for various types of substation equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups, tailoring communication for audience and situation
  • Ability to learn and apply client’s switching procedures and safety measures
  • Ability to reference and complete assignments described in applicable specifications
  • Ability to perform regular field work indoors and outdoors
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, business acumen, and management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, including reading and writing
  • Must meet client-specific work authorization criteria; currently U.S. Citizens and qualifying TN visa holders only
