Engineer I – Relay Settings
QualusRelay Settings Engineer in Power industry via Qualus University Engineering Boot Camp. Full-time role with structured training, hands-on safety training, and guided FE exam preparation.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, specification, setting calculation, and coordination of protective relaying and relay control schemes.
- Modeling, short circuit and overstressed breaker studies as well as the protective relaying recommendations for proposed generation interconnections to a client’s electrical system.
- Ensures all relay settings activities, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with the company’s established policies and objectives, and with client design standards.
- Present technical solutions to key customers respond in real time to technical concerns and answer questions in a knowledgeable, articulate manner.
- Work collaboratively with the appropriate groups/ individuals in Qualus to develop and implement technical solutions that support the objectives of the Engineering Department.
- Working on project teams supporting all quality and project management goals.
- Meeting all project deadlines and supporting the processes and procedures to meet deadlines.
- Maintaining up-to-date technical skills related to the design of electrical substations and protection and control schematics for the electric utility power grid through on-the-job work and formal training.
- Applying test procedures for various types of relay test equipment.
- Substation awareness and Safety consciousness.
- Aptitude to quickly learn and apply test procedures for various types of substation equipment.
- Good PC skills and the ability to support testing activities as required by the project lead.
- Identifying process improvement ideas and commuting ideas through appropriate management channels.
Requirements
What you’ll need- BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited school with a focus on power systems.
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
- Microsoft Office product application.
- Experience with ASPEN or CAPE software (a plus).
- Educational experience directly related to working with [medium to high voltage] electricity (preferred).
- Must have the ability to work independently, and accurately, and have high attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively discuss technical recommendations with customers.
- Strong computer skills.
