About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead and coordinate the design of protection, control, and metering systems for electrical substations ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV
  • Own project-level deliverables, ensuring quality, completeness, and alignment with client and project requirements
  • Serve as Project Lead on assigned projects
  • Develop and review one-line diagrams, protection schematics, and wiring diagrams
  • Lead preparation of panel layouts and interconnection drawings
  • Prepare and review engineering documents, specifications, and construction packages
  • Support development of outage staging, inspection, and testing plans
  • Provide technical oversight and perform design reviews of work completed by EITs and designers
  • Support construction and commissioning activities, including field troubleshooting and technical issue resolution
  • Participate in and lead factory acceptance testing (FAT) and inspections
  • Act as technical point of contact for clients during design reviews, constructability discussions, and project coordination
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated and coordinated designs
  • Support project delivery by managing scope, schedule, and budget for assigned work packages
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, quality assurance, internal standards, and best practices
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and designers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada, or eligible for registration
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in utility protection, control, and metering design, preferably within transmission and distribution projects
  • Demonstrated experience leading design efforts and coordinating technical deliverables on projects
  • Familiarity with substation protection and control systems, including relaying schemes, AC/DC schematics, and station design practices
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to develop practical, technically sound solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with clients, vendors, and internal teams
  • Proven ability to lead work, manage priorities, and deliver results in a deadline-driven environment
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD
