About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Guide QED’s Applications Engineering team in the Asia Pacific region
- Collaborate with customers and internal team members to maximize customer value from QED polishing and metrology products
- Provide technical support during customer meetings, capability analyses, product demonstrations, trade shows, and marketing initiatives
- Support technical content creation, including white papers, case studies, social media posts, and YouTube videos
- Publish or present technical papers at trade shows and conferences
- Provide remote and onsite customer support, including basic and advanced training, process optimization, and new process development
- Support polishing and metrology validations during new machine installations
- Work with the Customer Service Manager to track and close customer requests promptly
- Collect and disseminate Voice of Customer input to Engineering, R&D, and Marketing
- Identify and explore new applications and markets for QED technology through process development initiatives in the CEC
- Work with R&D on new fluid, software, and hardware developments
- Travel domestically and internationally approximately 30–50%
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum B.S. in Optical Engineering or a related field
- 5+ years of relevant industry experience
- Experience in the precision optics, photonics, semiconductor manufacturing, or other precision manufacturing industries
- Experience in optical fabrication, including generating, grinding, lapping, polishing, sub-aperture polishing, ion beam figuring, magnetorheological finishing, interferometry, and optical testing of plano, spherical, and aspherical optics
- Working knowledge of machine control software
- Working knowledge of metrology instrument software
- Working knowledge of mathematical analysis software
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- English, Japanese, and Mandarin are critical languages for the region; fluency in all three is ideal
- Ability to develop deep technical understanding and respond effectively to customer process challenges
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive results in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally approximately 30–50%
