About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Build the agent platform and tooling, including orchestration, tool/function calling, evaluation harnesses, prompt/version management, tracing/observability, and safety/guardrails
- Support retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), structured extraction, and production inference workflows
- Work with application engineering teams to embed AI into software development workflows such as code review assistance, test generation, incident support, and developer copilots
- Decide what to delegate to agents versus retain as human work, scope agent tasks, and adapt the boundary as tooling maturity changes
- Diagnose agent behavior from traces, intermediate steps, inputs, and failure points
- Verify AI-generated output and tests before trusting or deploying them
- Own applied AI projects from prototype through production, including data needs, system design, model/vendor selection, rollout, monitoring, and iteration
- Partner with product, design, and data/ML stakeholders to deliver customer-facing outcomes
- Assess AI adoption across teams, identify bottlenecks and failure modes, build missing capabilities, teach existing tools, and advocate for adoption
- Establish engineering practices for reliability, evaluation, incident response, privacy/security, and AI development
- Coach engineers through design reviews, pairing, and pragmatic technical leadership
- Mentor peers and improve organization-wide engineering quality
Requirements
What you’ll need- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including shipping production systems
- Direct experience on an Applied AI or product AI team building LLM- or ML-powered features
- Demonstrated judgment in agent-driven development, including task delegation, agent scoping/context, and output verification
- Strong backend and system design skills
- Experience with APIs, distributed systems, queues/workflows, observability, and performance
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive outcomes with product, design, data/ML, and platform partners
- Track record of mentoring peers and improving engineering quality
- Authorization to work for any employer in the U.S.; employment visa sponsorship is unavailable
- Experience with platform capabilities for engineers, embeddings, search/retrieval, evaluation methodologies, model monitoring, AI agents/assistants at scale, inference constraints, vendor/model tradeoffs, and deployment patterns are nice to have
