About the role
- Provide onsite interpreting (OSI) services to the State of New Hampshire Judicial Branch (NHJB).
- Experience with consecutive or simultaneous onsite (in person) interpretation between a court's representative and non-English speakers.
- Polite forms of expression, enunciation, and a high level of customer service.
- Deliver correct concepts and meanings between speakers and Limited English Proficient (LEP) speakers.
- Correct grammar, clarity, and tones between English and your native language.
- Follow the speakers’ direction, professionally interject when clarification is needed, and manage the flow of conversation.
- Refrain from side conversations with the LEP and entering into any disagreement with the customer or LEP.
- Compliance with applicable ethics and standards.
Requirements
- Court-certified or Court-Registered in the State of New Hampshire - you will be asked to provide your credentials.
- Agree to undergo annual criminal and state registry background checks:
- - Criminal
- - Bureau of Elderly and Adult Services (BEAS)
- - Division for Children, Youth & Families (DCYF)
- Strong understanding of NHJB procedures, e.g. precise documentation of services provided for each session
- At least one (1) year of onsite consecutive or simultaneous interpreting experience in a legal/courts setting
- Two (2) professional references who can confirm your profession as an onsite consecutive or simultaneous interpreter
- Minimum age: Must be 18+ years or older
- Minimum education: Must have High School Diploma
- Full fluency in English and your native language
- Able to provide at least one of the following accreditations:
- - American Translation Association (ATA)
- - Trained or accredited through a higher education institution
