About the role

  • Provide onsite interpreting (OSI) services to the State of New Hampshire Judicial Branch (NHJB).
  • Experience with consecutive or simultaneous onsite (in person) interpretation between a court's representative and non-English speakers.
  • Polite forms of expression, enunciation, and a high level of customer service.
  • Deliver correct concepts and meanings between speakers and Limited English Proficient (LEP) speakers.
  • Correct grammar, clarity, and tones between English and your native language.
  • Follow the speakers’ direction, professionally interject when clarification is needed, and manage the flow of conversation.
  • Refrain from side conversations with the LEP and entering into any disagreement with the customer or LEP.
  • Compliance with applicable ethics and standards.

Requirements

  • Court-certified or Court-Registered in the State of New Hampshire - you will be asked to provide your credentials.
  • Agree to undergo annual criminal and state registry background checks:
  • - Criminal
  • - Bureau of Elderly and Adult Services (BEAS)
  • - Division for Children, Youth & Families (DCYF)
  • Strong understanding of NHJB procedures, e.g. precise documentation of services provided for each session
  • At least one (1) year of onsite consecutive or simultaneous interpreting experience in a legal/courts setting
  • Two (2) professional references who can confirm your profession as an onsite consecutive or simultaneous interpreter
  • Minimum age: Must be 18+ years or older
  • Minimum education: Must have High School Diploma
  • Full fluency in English and your native language
  • Able to provide at least one of the following accreditations:
  • - American Translation Association (ATA)
  • - Trained or accredited through a higher education institution
