About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead architecture and control frameworks for PNC’s on-premises D&A technology ecosystem
- Design data movement controls, reconciliation pipelines, and semantic abstraction layers across relational warehouses, legacy Hadoop, and on-premises Lakehouse environments
- Define standards for high availability, enterprise security, and audited data movement
- Architect automated enterprise-wide data validation, row-count verification, checksum validation, threshold alerting, and schema-evolution tracking
- Define standards bridging Control-M batch/legacy workflows with Apache Airflow DAG orchestration
- Architect and maintain Apache Polaris as a centralized REST catalog for Apache Iceberg tables
- Enforce multi-engine catalog governance, role-based access control, and credential scoping
- Implement and tune Trino across bare-metal or private Kubernetes clusters to federate queries across relational databases, Hadoop, and Iceberg storage
- Architect graph database integrations for entity relationships, data lineage, and semantic ontologies
- Maintain operational metadata, structural tracking, and end-to-end data lineage for regulatory compliance
- Provide thought leadership for control architecture evolution within the DnA Data Ops ecosystem
- Drive strategic application architecture roadmaps and prioritize architectural and technical work
- Partner with Product Owners to prioritize and deliver business priorities through monthly releases
- Participate in business requirements gathering and understand client requirements
- Create, present, and obtain signoff for design documents
- Support enterprise architecture and perform proofs of concept for new requirements
- Ensure compliance with architecture and technology standards and manage exceptions and vulnerabilities
- Design, develop, and optimize scalable data warehouses and ETL architecture for BI applications
- Analyze business intelligence data and recommend data warehouse growth and integration
- Capture requirements with IT and business customers for data warehouse architecture
- Provide technical guidance and ensure solutions align with architecture frameworks
- Lead and consult on data warehouse implementation and integration while ensuring quality and integrity standards
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experience in data architecture and enterprise data management within large-scale, on-premises data center environments
- Proven track record designing enterprise-grade data control frameworks, reconciliation patterns, audit mechanisms, and schema evolution strategies for high-throughput environments
- Deep conceptual and architectural understanding of on-premises Hadoop ecosystems: HDFS, YARN, Hive, Spark, and Kerberos
- Exposure to or conceptual understanding of Agentic AI frameworks
- Experience in architecture and operating mission-critical, high-volume, low-latency services
- Experience with governance, implementation, and/or use of analytic data and software for analysis, advanced analytics, and visualization
- Experience with business data architecture standards
- Experience architecting high-performance application data services against very large data stores
- Experience with Hadoop, data modeling, ETL/ELT, and APIs
- Experience with distributed computer solutions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including translating complex technical information for senior management and product teams
- Experience providing technical thought leadership across an organization
- Skills in data modeling, enterprise architecture frameworks, governance management, machine learning, risk assessments, HDFS, SQL, technical data architecture, database structures, data warehousing, IT architecture, logical data modeling, requirements analysis, and organizational leadership
- University/college degree typically required, with 5+ years of industry-relevant experience; comparable combination of education, job-specific certifications, and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
- Must be eligible to work without employment visa sponsorship; PNC will not provide sponsorship or participate in STEM OPT
