About the role

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of all LTL shipments, ensuring timely pickup, transit, and delivery
  • Manage and develop relationships with national and regional LTL carriers to negotiate rates, capacity, and service commitments
  • Monitor carrier performance using KPIs and scorecards and implement corrective actions
  • Lead and mentor a team of LTL coordinators, dispatchers, and operations specialists
  • Collaborate with the sales team to align pricing strategies and support business development efforts
  • Ensure operational processes align with customer requirements, regulatory compliance, and internal SOPs
  • Act as the primary escalation point for service failures, delays, and exceptions; drive proactive communication and resolution
  • Partner with IT and process improvement teams to automate workflows and enhance system capabilities
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, operational goals, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Track market trends, capacity fluctuations, and rate volatility to guide strategic planning and risk management
  • Prepare and present operational performance reports to executive leadership and clients

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in LTL operations, preferably within a 3PL or freight brokerage environment
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to coach, develop, and manage high-performing teams
  • Strong understanding of LTL pricing structures, freight classification, and NMFC guidelines
  • Proficiency in TMS platforms and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel)
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills for managing carrier and customer relationships
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a results-driven mindset
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume logistics environment with competing priorities
  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations, EDI/API processes, and transportation compliance standards
  • Demonstrated ability to drive process improvement and operational efficiency through technology and KPIs
