About the role
- Oversee day-to-day operations of all LTL shipments, ensuring timely pickup, transit, and delivery
- Manage and develop relationships with national and regional LTL carriers to negotiate rates, capacity, and service commitments
- Monitor carrier performance using KPIs and scorecards and implement corrective actions
- Lead and mentor a team of LTL coordinators, dispatchers, and operations specialists
- Collaborate with the sales team to align pricing strategies and support business development efforts
- Ensure operational processes align with customer requirements, regulatory compliance, and internal SOPs
- Act as the primary escalation point for service failures, delays, and exceptions; drive proactive communication and resolution
- Partner with IT and process improvement teams to automate workflows and enhance system capabilities
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, operational goals, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Track market trends, capacity fluctuations, and rate volatility to guide strategic planning and risk management
- Prepare and present operational performance reports to executive leadership and clients
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of experience in LTL operations, preferably within a 3PL or freight brokerage environment
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to coach, develop, and manage high-performing teams
- Strong understanding of LTL pricing structures, freight classification, and NMFC guidelines
- Proficiency in TMS platforms and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel)
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills for managing carrier and customer relationships
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a results-driven mindset
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume logistics environment with competing priorities
- Working knowledge of DOT regulations, EDI/API processes, and transportation compliance standards
- Demonstrated ability to drive process improvement and operational efficiency through technology and KPIs
